KC Chiefs

Breaking News

04-23-2008 - DE Jared Allen traded to Minnesota Vikings for Vikings first round #17 pick and two 3rd round picks. Jared Allen was the NFL lead sacker in 2007.
12-16-2007 - As soon as KC's losing season is over, rumor has it major cuts to an already weak offense will include veterans TE Jason Dunn, Ctr Casey Wiegmann, G John Welbourn and WR Eddie Kennison. This leaves TE Tony Gonzales and Guard Brians Waters as the only two left of an offense that used to be one of NFL's leaders in scoring and yardage. So instead of building up a weak offensive line and getting a quality quarterback, they will be cutting offensive veterans. One has to ask if they can replace these and build up an offense with so many holes now. Only time will tell but KC fans need to settle back for a rebuilding phase that no doubt will take a few more losing seasons.
10-16-2007 - RB Michael Bennett traded to Tampa Bay Buccaneers for undisclosed draft picks in 2008 and 2009

Why River Falls?

Chiefs History

Lamar Hunt was instrumental in creating the AFL (American Football League) in 1959 and established his team the Dallas Texans. The NFL already existed and included the Dallas Cowboys. It soon became apparent that Dallas could not support two teams, therefore, in May of 1963 he announced the Dallas Texans would move to Kansas City and become the Kansas City Chiefs, using KC Mayor H. Roe Bartle's nickname "Chief".

Why do the Chiefs go to River Falls, Minn each year since 1991 for training camp?
They had been canceling practices due to the oppressive heat, and needed some competition. In Wisconsin, the Saints, Packers, Bears and Vikings were already camping nearby at that time.
Another big reason, other than the weather, was for the quiet and peacefull setting of a small town rather than the fast life of the big city with unlimited temptations for young men who suddenly find themselves with lots of money in thier pockets.
